Phoebe Prince Story

This article, titled, "A Teen Tragedy" looks at the story, responsibilities, and impacts of Phoebe (pronounced FEE-BEE) Prince's suicide. There is a single sheet of questions that goes along with this: The questions are listed here:



**Each answer needs to be 30 words:
Cover Story: “A Teen Tragedy: Girl’s Death Puts Bullying in the Spotlight”

1.     After reading the first page, do you think the 9 students were guilty of criminal charges? How so/Why?

2.     What were Phoebe’s challenges in coming to a new school in a new country? (Think about culture….) Explain

3.     At the top of the 2nd page, it says, “some residents say that the district attorney has gone too far, equating cruel behavior with criminal behavior”. In thinking about the LAW, what is your opinion on this matter?

4.     On page 2, the first paragraph under “Bullying at Extremes”, the argument is made that this was an extreme case of bullying and not typical. After taking this class and seeing a lot, do you agree? Explain?

5.     Why do you think that boys usually fall victim to physical bullying, while girls are usually targets of verbal attacks and intimidation? Which one is more painful (in your opinion) and why?

6.     Why did Phoebe Prince’s death (this case) put bullying in the spotlight? (prediction…) and what makes you think that?

7.     “If you feel like a mouse, you are going to act like a rat”….What does this metaphor mean? Explain it…

8.     Why is bullycide such a big deal? How do we cut down on the rising number of cases?

9.     Under the section, “How Widespread”, the tone that is being given is that bullying isn’t happening as much anymore. Do you agree? Why do you think it might appear that bullying has gone down?

10.  Give a general response to this story. What struck you as odd? What stood out as alarming? What do you agree with and disagree with? What does this story leave you thinking? Make a prediction. Draw a connection (deeper than…I’ve seen bullying)
